Web cam and DSL compatability question....

My son is currently in argentina, and we were VERY surprised last week when he suddenly popped into aol messenger and said hello from 6,000 miles away in a cyber cafe'. Here was the dissapointing issue. He had a camera there, and was able to talk to my brother, here in Colorado, over video. My brother has cable modem. We use Quest DSL, and were UNABLE to connect. This has happened before. I had read something before about DSL and such video applications (aol mssngr, yahoo msngr, msn messenger etc) having compatability issues.

My neighborhood ONLY has the DSL option, does anyone have a suggestion on remedying this issue? (besides moving)

A DSL connection should have nothing to do with it. I connect all the time with people on DSL.

If you are running a firewall, that could be preventing the connection.
