Hi all -
I'm using a hp laptop model ze4145 with amd processor, xp sp2, smc2835 pcmcia wireless adapter, plenty of ram. The laptop has had the bios flashed with the most recent version and I have added the patch to sp2.

The problem is as mentioned in the title. I run the disc from scm for installation and the driver is installed but yellow flagged in the device manager and the error code given. There are no resources used as the device is not running and therefore doesn't use them. Also there is nothing to click on to manually allocate the resources. I have two smc2835 cards available, one known to be good and the other new. Both give the same results. Do not have another computer to try them out on. Called smc and spent over two hours installing and uninstalling (that seems to be all that they know). Sent an e-mail to them and they referred me back to the phone. Also, if I try to open the utility, it flashes on the screen and then disappears very quickly, too fast to read much of anything.

I hope one (or more) of you have some ideas because I'm empty. There is another problem unrelated, I cannot get a usb card to work. That is in the next post below. Thanks in advance for any help.

Code 10 is a rather abiguous code for a number of issues. I find more often than not its and IRQ assignment error. You don't really have to know what an IRQ is, but essetially it means that you have too much connected to your computer at once and your computer doesn't have any addresses left for the new device.

Code 10 could also mean that the driver is improperly getting the assignment from the BIOS. In this case, all you really need to do is log in under the administrator account, removed and reinstall the device.

Many apologies for not replying sooner. I am trying to ween this computer from dsl. After posting here, it started saying that "this page cannot be displayed". Cured that by downloading Opera. Works great. Then it would connect to the network but not the internet. Cured that with prohibiting proxies. So far so good on that score. So now, I'm back to the code 10 thing but with a little more info. I mentioned I tried two cards, the smc2835w and a usb 1.1 to 2.0 adapter. The usb card would freeze the mouse and the smc card would give the code 10 error. Anyhow, a friend tried installing another usb adapter and it would not work either. Beginning to suspect the card slot. This computer has the slot that accepts either type II or type III cards and I have heard some comments regarding incompatibility with one card. Maybe others?

Anyhow, have a Happy New Year and many thanks for your quick reply.
