View Full Version : Annoying Problem Connecting to Internet

Every time I turn on or restart my computer, it won't connect to the internet the first time I try. I have to open and close the application two or three times before it connects. Once it connects, everything works fine from then on.

For example, my browser (IE) won't connect the first time I open it ("The page cannot be displayed"). When I close it and reopen it, it connects and loads the page fine. Same with my e-mail (OE) - I have to open and close it a couple of times to get it to connect. Once one application connects, all applications are able to connect and work fine.

I use a network and no other computers have this problem. This particular computer is a HP Pavilion with Windows 98SE. Any ideas on what's going on and how to fix this problem?

Thanks.

What connection/network setup do you have?

I have Comcast cable internet with a four channel wireless Linksys 802.11b router. This computer plugs directly into the router (not wireless). I use static IP's for all LAN connections.

Again, the other computers on my LAN have no problems so it seems to be specific to this computer rather than the router/cable.

Thanks.

You may want to post a HiJackThis log in the CyberSafety forum.

Also do virus and malware scans.
