Newbie needs help, please!

Okay, here's the scenario, and I apologize right up front 'cause I'm totally clueless with computers. I got a desktop from a friend of mine that he got from another person. The computer is a HP 4450 desktop with the following specs: intel celeron 366 Mhz processor, 64 MB SDRAM memory, v.90 56 kbps modem, 2 USB ports, 6.4 GB hard drive. There are all sorts of programs loaded onto the computer, including AOL. The computer is in my room with no available phone hookup. Is there a way to make this desktop wireless? My roomie has a laptop that is wireless DSL using a Linksys wireless B broadband router. Somone suggested I get this Linksys wireless G USB network adapter, so I got it, but I have no clue what to do. Can anyone point me to a website or something? Again, sorry I'm a bit retarded with this. Thanks!

Have you read the instructions that came with the adaptor? If you have questions about them before you go on, I'd be glad to try to answer them.

Look at the box the adapter came in and make sure the system req's fall in line with what you have. Most of all note what ver of Windows it will work with. While some devices will work with Windows 98,98SE, and ME I can tell you that those ver of windows do not have the best wireless support. If you do have a Windows install disk laying around it might be a good idea just to format that drive and reload windows. An old computer with god knows what on it plus AOL can only make your job harder. You are in good hands with z1p so I will leave you with him, my post was more of a "food for thought" kind of thing
