Hello,
I have 20 PCs of Siemens Nixdorf Scenic Pro D5. The systems configuration are Pentium 200 MHz, 64MB EDO RAm, hard disk 2,5.GB, CD-ROM 24x. I would like to use the PCs to set up a Cybercafe. The PCs will be for Internet access. Customers can check their email or surf the World Wide Web.
Someone told me that the PCs are too old for such a business and will be slow in terms of performance. Is that true? Please advice me on what to do.
Thank you very much for your time.

You will be struggling to provide a decent service with those PCs.
If it's only for people to use the internet to view webpages the performance will really be more determined by the quality of your internet connection for all those PCs.
The PCs are going to be slow.....

I would venture to guess that you'd be getting some sort of DSL, Cable, etc. connection where you are always connected. Even with that, I wouldn't waste my money on only 200Mhz machines.

btw if you were to go ahead with this I would strongly suggest installing win95 or better still 98Lite (google "98Lite") which will give you the fastest OS you could expect short of installing linux which to be honest would not be in the best interests of your business being what it is and all.

Well, I think they'll work with a fast connection BUT you had better find a way to charge on bandwidth usage not time (e.g 10c per MB not 50c per minute) otherwise you won't get many repeat customers as they will be slow.

i think those are way to slow, the pcs at the cyber cafes i go to are a lot faster, im not sure on exact specs but i know over 1 gig mhz, 256 ram, and a 32 mb graphics card, basically they are good enough to play games like battlefield 1942, counterstrike, and all that with basically no lag on lan or internet. They do a hourly charge, 2$ per hour.....

Oh yeah, great point T_A.
Shows how much (little) we use Internet Cafes huh.
Just walking past the few local to work shows me how much the modern CyberCafe is targeted at that market.
Ezecom, unless you clearly advertise as not suitable for online gaming purposes, those machines will be completely unsuitable for use in a modern CyberCafe.

I think the money makeing in cyber cafe is teens playing games over the Lan and over the net. (or atleast that's how i have always seen them)
