re yahoo chat and windows 98

Hello I am really stuck and do not know what to do!!! I am on windows98 and Yahoo chat does not work at all.I can see friends online but I can not talk to them.Is there any new upgrade for yahoo at all?What should internet explorer be on here?If anyone knows a way round this please email me !!!!!amandauk43@hotmail.com Thank-you

What version of internet explorer do you have?( To find it out go to Help>About Internet Explorer)
Do you have a firewall or somethign that could interfer with the yahoo messenger?
