Hard Drive Cloning/Backup Utility

I'm looking for a program that can do the following:

1. Copy an entire partition (one of two partitions on a hard drive) with Windows installed on it.

2. "Paste" that partition into another partition (one of two) on another hard drive in the same computer.

3. This isn't critical, but it would be nice if the program could also archive a backed-up partition.

I've searched and tried several products such as the Windows File and Settings Transfer Wizard, XXClone, and Acronis True Image, but none of those could do exactly what I needed done. Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome

What couldn't Acronis True Image do?
It is one of the best out there. I would recommend that, then Norton Ghost, then Paragon Partition Manager.

Acronis True Image would not let me copy just one partition on a HDD. It wanted to copy all partitions on the HDD. Maybe I had an older buggy version (I've heard this program is buggy). I had Norton System Works installed, but so many things bugged me about it (like the inability to terminate processes) I uninstalled it. I guess I will re-install and try its Ghost program. Thanks for the help, I will continue to check this thread for replies.

What version of True Image were you using?

The latest versions definately let you image partitions, even the OS partition when the OS is running.

Norton Ghost copied my partitions swiftly and I think effectively. I'm having alot of problems with getting some software to run, but I'm not sure if Ghost copied it poorly, or if it's because I installed windows over an already existing windows. Probably the latter. Guess I need to start over again.

I've been looking at XXCLONE as well. Did you get it to work? I tried it on a machine using ME , chose the make the clone bootable option, and it seemed to proceed O.K. The problem was that when I changed the jumpers to make the clone a master and removed the original drive, the clone would not boot up.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
James
