Win XP Prof and Novell Network help

Hello All Im running my pc with Win xp proff and we are using a novell server running netware.

I can not get my pc to connect. I downloaded the client from novell
491sp1e.exe because the XP Cd didnt seem to have the novell client on it.

However, when installing it, I hear it should have asked me for the tree or server name. It didnt. When I go to click to allow it to browse for either one it doesnt show a tree nor the domain server. I type in the name of the server but it say its incorrect.

What is the correct process for getting my pc connected?

I was using XP home and was told that this version doesnt work with networks so I have purchased the XP prof up grade CD. But thats not working either.

Please advise.

I would re-install the novel client and you should see the option to browse the tree. If not log onto local windowes and browse the tree from the large N in the desktop tray. If this does not work you need to ensure that your lap top can ping the server you are trying to connect to , that the pc is in the correct domain and that the domain admin has given you rights to the tree.

I have 3 times un-installed and re-installed the client and it never gives the option to brows the tree.

I am able to log on to local windows but there is no large N in the desktop tray.

I am able to ping the server.

Any thoughts?

Are you sure that the novel client has actually been installed?
Can you get to it from start/programs etc?

Just checked and we are using novel client 4.82.0.0 with xp.
Do you get the novel log in screen up when you start the pc.
If you go to the advanced tab on the log in screen you should be able to navigate to the Tree.

i don't think you can "upgrade" from xp-home to xp-professional.
