Both although not right “up to date” they do work, having been used by my wife and daughter. I want to avoid reinstalling everything...with drivers and windows service packs then the updates it is very time consuming. So what I need to do is to take out all the personnel files, delete the e_mail config (passwords/address ect) and the wifi passwords and details. One runs on visa the other on XP.

If anyone has details of how I can achieve this without missing a bit I would be most grateful.

Hello there,

Internet explorer and chrome keep saying sites have certificate problem. Facebook and even Microsoft.com too. after you click to go ahead to facebook no images are showing. for facebook to display correctly you have to right click on a bar at the top of the window and click display blocked content. then facebook displays correctly. EVERYTIME its the same.

also there is a popup down by the clock that keeps saying something like "Windows update cant connect" or something. probably because of that certificate warning.

I ran malwarebytes and superantispyware and removed the mywebsearch toolbar virus.

should I try uninstalling IE and reinstalling it so that the browser is at default settings? is there a way I can reset browsers to default?

Please help. I'm trying to help Lisa, who I kind of have adopted as a daughter. She moved into her own apartment and just got her internet hooked up mainly to go on Facebook. And cant because of this browser problem. I brought my laptop to her house and connected to facebook via her wireless modem. I was able to connect just fine.

windows vista
service pack 3

Please help, thank you,

Hello all

wondering if anyone can help me in deciding.......my dell inspiron desktop is about 6yrs old, works good still.. Hard drive acts up from time to time and im wondering this...Maybe ill buy a NEW hard drive install it and buy windows 7 and put it on the new HD, instead of buying a whole new computer....im not looking for some high end HD, i currently have 250gb and its nowhere near full, id go bigger, but not an expensive one........if i was to buy a new desktop, i only need the tower, and at dell.com they start at 4-500 and up dollars depending.....

Anyways.....i also have an external HD so i can move the things i want saved onto that, then after installing win 7 i can transfer them back to where they need to go....

Vista stinks and this HD has been really annoying me.....But like i said, my computer is 6yrs old

dell inspiron 531..3gb of memory, 32 bit OS
AMD athlon 64x2 dual core processor 4000 2.10Ghz

i think i can go up to 4Gb of memory i believe i have room for that.. have to ck it....i guess even that though, most new systems you can get 6-8 or more ram.....

dont use this computer for any gaming.. we surf, FB emails you tube stuff like that....i have pictures on it and music, that nobody uses anymore, that stuff i move onto the external drive...Thats got nothing to do with the memory though...........anyways, any thoughts??? not sure what it costs to buy win 7 cd , if between that and cost of new HD is almost as much as a new tower, which i hope it isnt, then id buy a new tower with win 7 already on it...???????????????

thanks

What can be the problem?
I have another program that does show images of the CMOS camera.
I hope someone can give me some directions to solve this.

Hi,

I'd be grateful for advice on how to sort this out.

The O/S is Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit (Service Pack 2). It's on a Dell desktop with an Intel(R) Core(RM)2 Quad processor.

Booting up is now very protracted - but in one particular part of the process only. The boot seems to start normally, but from the time the desktop appears on the monitor, it now takes 40 minutes before I can start working. It used to take two or three minutes.

Amongst other things, McAfee takes half an hour to appear when it reports its firewall and real-time scanning are turned off. Attempts to turn them on are fruitless. However, after McAfee completes an automatic software update, the program works correctly.

Attempts to initiate other processes or programs during the 40 minute ‘waiting’ period mentioned above, usually cause the system to freeze and/or take very much longer than usual to carry out the tasks.

(Note: some of the simplest activities will still work. For example: clicking on the Start button quickly produces a menu. However, if I then click on (say) Control Panel, the desktop freezes though the Control Panel window may finally appear after an extended time has elapsed.)

After this 40 minute period, the PC seems to act normally and will deal with the demands made of it without any obvious problem.

Another quirk is that the network/internet connection icon on the task bar reports there is no connection even when I am interacting with the web, for example.

I've tried several ways of resolving this without success so far, including: applying System Restore; running CHKDSK; running full McAfee and Malwarbytes scans; running Dell diagnostic tests; carrying out tests recommended by Microsoft's support site.

Does anyone have any suggestions about the possible cause and how to clear it up, please?

Hi after being away for quite a while & not using the 'desktop PC', it seemed to be slow at first, but then OK. I downloaded windows updates including 'Nvidia driver update' for Geforce 9500 GS, of which the driver update was the only one to fail. Then the PC started to freeze with the mouse being 'jerky' At the time the laptop connected to the network was fine. After switching back on it wouldn't connect to the network, the router appearing fine though. I went into safe mode & the network connection was OK, all the checks with connections that I could check seemed OK? But going back to normal mode, the problem with no network connection reappeared & didn't seem to want to switch off. Only by holding the start button would it switch off.

In safe mode I did a 'system restore', also got rid of previous updates. Now when I come out of safe mode with a restart all is fine. But sometimes when switched back on it doesn't connect to the network. I've scanned with Avast, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware. Checked disk for errors & done a diagnose with in 'Network & Sharing Center' & no problems shown?

It wasn't possible when the PC kept freezing to do a system restore, so that's why it was done through safe mode, would that make any difference?

So at the moment when it is connected to the network & usually after going through safe mode first, everything works as before & fast. It switches off OK too. Then sometimes when switched back on it shows it hasn't connected to the network & won't switch off correctly. & then the options of safe mode with networking (which I use) or normal appear. If going with safe mode with networking then doing a restart the PC will connect & work perfectly. If I was to choose normal its back to not connecting to the network (at this stage the mouse doesn't freeze any more) & problems switching off.

Is there anything else I can do? or do I just have to reinstall everything?

Instead of using the laptop I'm able to compose this question on the desktop, which yet again for the moment appears fine?

PC Details:
Windows Vista Premium (Service Pack 2)
Intel Core (TM) duo CPU
E7300@2.61GHZ
3.00GB Ram
Nvidia Geforce 9500 GS

Appreciate any help

Thx
