How do I free system resources?
I was having trouble a while back when I tried to listen to mp3's. i called Gateway and they helped me to free up the system resources. When I called them today they were not allowed to help with that. When they looked at the history, the tech person did not put in the computer what he did to fix it. I remember I went in and deleted some startup things.
Can anyone help? Thanks!! |
Hold down Ctrl/Alt/Del keys. A windows will pop open. Remove what you want except Systray and Explorer. It will only remove what ever until you reboot, then what ever it was you removed will be back.
An easy way to do it is get a freeware program that makes it easy to do, and permanent. I use Startup Manager. |
You can download Startup Manager here: http://www.delphifreestuff.com/
Look under Freeware. [ 16 October 2001: Message edited by: Junky ] |
Go to www.voodoofiles.com you'll find plenty of freeware programs.

Whatever this guy had me do, did it without me downloading anything... does anyone know how to do that?
|
I don't know what he did. I can only tell you what I do know. :) You want to know the easy way, download and install Startup Manager. Then open it up and disable the programs you don't want to run at startup. You will regain alot of resources, freeing up memory. And if you want to reinable one, just open up Starup Manager again and do so. I mean it is easy and reliable.

Yeah I saw that. I am doing that already. I am just seeing if anyone knows any other way. This was permanent until I uninstalled and then reinstalled Musicmatch jukebox.

Hi sabe002:
Is it possible perhaps that he had you go into run......msconfig......and under the start up tab, had you uncheck programs you didn't need loading at start up? This site has things laid out nicely by colour code. Green is safe to uncheck...yellow.....you'd best take caution and red.....leave alone. http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Uncheck.htm Daizy |
In Windows95 there is no easy simple way to control startup programs such as with win98 and newer versions. That's why programs such as Starup Manager or Startup Cop are used. However, one can disable programs from within the program itself, in the registry, in Windows startup or with the Ctrl/Alt/Del. Take yer pick. :)
