COOKIES

Don't know why I hate them so much, nobody else seems to be hung up on the subject but I resent having to accept them. Just went thru' an aggravating 2 hours trying to get on drugstore. com--well got on but not re "ordering" and emails were flying back and forth between us. I got a lot of useless info and "follow instructions!" etc. Finally I thought "well, I mite be dumb but I'm not totally stupid so went into Security where I had "accept cookies per session" checked BUT not "accept cookies on your hard drive" and checked that and the damn drugstore.com worked like a charm. I particularily hated that as here I was spending over $100 with them and went thru' that BESIDES having them put cookies on Hard Drive.

Something else you can do. Head over to www.tucows.com or www.nonags.com and get a freeware program that cleans cookies off the hard drive. Just one click and they're gone. :)

Thanks for reply. Isn't there someway that you can do it yourself--wipe them off your hard drive?

Yep, just go to the Cookies folder and delete away. :) It's a sub folder of Windows.

Just an addition to what Junky mentioned.

The folder is located in C:\WINDOWS\Cookies

You're best off deleting them with all browser windows closed.

Then you can delete the cookies but don't try to delete index.dat

The index.dat file if you really want to delete it has to be removed through DOS.

The rest of the files however are your cookies which you can freely delete in windows.

It is worth looking at the filenames of the cookies as you delete them though because some of these cookies contain your username and pw for websites and webpages you may have logged into. You may want to keep some of these.

So a "Find" for cookies, when it finishes click "File"/"Save Search". now you have that particular routine available to you easily. THen open the folder called "Cookies" in C:\Windows at the end of the list you will find index.dat, highlight it then click "Edit"/"Invert Selection", then click "File"/Delete". Bye,Bye cookies. I have a folder on my Desktop called "Finds" (very imaginative) where I store shortcuts to searches for cookies, *.tmp, *.chk, and, *.old. This helps automate one of the often forgotten disk maintenance chores. ;)

Thanks, "From the Ether" Sounds good. And thanks again to the rest of you. Does anyone know a mail server that sends "scrolling words across screen"(Marquee) without them being sent as attachment? I was looking for a server re Anonymous mail and saw a mail server touting that AND as I have a one track mind I went full speed ahead on my original project EVEN tho' I had been excited when I saw it as so many people hate the word Attachments.
