Unhappy Computer doesnt stay on

I have a dell optiplex gx620. Lately, when I turn it on, it initially shuts down automatically just after showing the splash screen. Then when I turn it on again right away, it turns on, works properly for about 45 minutes then shuts down again.

I thought initially it might be a problem with the fan, as it is noisy, but then if it were, why would the computer turn on and stay on the second time around?

I ran malware bytes, and found 6 infections, which I removed, and rebooted. The computer then acted fine for a day or so, normally shutting down and rebooting. Yesterday, it started acting like it was earlier.

Why does it do this, and how can I fix it?

Sounds like either: Power supply problem or over heating problem. If the fan on top of the processor is noisy then you probably have a overheating problem. Take the side of the case off (have computer unplugged), see if there is a build up of dust, dirt, cat/dog hair....If the inside of the case and fan is dirty (common occurance) you need to clean it out.

Also while the case is open plug er in and see if it runs better, watch the fan on top of the processor does it stop?

hi. no the fan doesnt stop. What makes me think its not an overheating problem is that when I start the computer after it shuts down the first time, it stays on with no problems. If the power supply had a problem, wouldnt the computer just not start
