Unhappy Lost Modem

I just re-installed Xp on a new hard drive and everything went fine until I tried to access the internet. This is where I found out that my modem, and consequently my ethernet connection weren't recognized eventhough they worked fine on my old hard drive. I've checked eveywhere from Devices to Internet Options to Network Connections with no sign of them. I've also tried Add New Hardware, Add New Connection and still no luck! My modem is a Ambit 256. Any Ideas?
p.s. I can get on the internet using an Ubuntu Live CD so is nothing wrong with my broadband connection but still need Xp for various programmes

Maybe the driver(S) needs to be installed/reinstalled.

On my Dells, there is a networking driver for the built in 10-100 network. Look for something in the drivers similar sounding.
If the networking driver is installed/working, just click on Internet Explorer and see what happens.
No need to set up a connection or mess with a modem, usually the modem auto log on (DSL). Only older modems require a manual username password from Windows. And since you can get in thru Linux, its just some little glitch.
