Had problem with a Trojan, posted earlier, laptop has now started to cycle between startup and reboot mode and wont let me into safe mode. I have the recovery disks which run in the cd but nothing happens on screen. Tried f8 f11 f5 but still the same. I managed to type off the laptop the following info and a brief record of what I had done so far (I can get into the command prompt and open regedit but other options are limited)

Startup repair.. is checking your system etc... searching for problems...

Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically..
then shows Send .. Dont send .. options and View problem details .. and this is what the View problems show..

which I tried on another computer but didnt come up with anything.

I click Dont send as there is no internet connection on the laptop at present. I can then have the option of ..

View diagnostic and repair details , which is the above, or
View advanced options for system recovery and support and the Back Finish Cancel options. If I click Finish, it goes back through all the above again and gets me nowhere.

Clicking on the latter View advanced etc.. gives me

System Recovery Options ..
Select a language and Keyboard layout which I select UK.
Next screen gives me User name & Password which I log in ok

Next screen has 5 options showing Microsoft Windows Vista on C:

Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Command Prompt.

If I take one at a time this is what happens..
Startup Repair .. If a problem is found etc... and it searches away.

Comes back to the first part of Problem signatures but with different values send dont send etc..

System Restore .. System restore can help etc.. click Next then .. Choose a restore point..
It only gives 1 option of dates which is 1/27/2010 2020.26pm Install: Windows update.

I highlight it and click Next then..

Disk Acer C: (system) Ready to restore
Data D: This disk is not in the selected restore point
PQSERVICE X This disk is not in the selected restore point

C: is the only one with a tick in it and I am unable to tick the other 2. I hit Next and then another screen..

Confirm your restore point Time (as before) and Description Install Windows Update. System Restore will restart your computer etc.. with options Back Finish Cancel so I hit Finish and confirm Yes .. which goes on to Restoring Files etc.. then

System restore did not complete successfully.. Details .. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable (0x80070570)

It just then goes back to the System Recovery options menu.

The process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.
