monitor goes black/green/white

over the last 2 weeks as I've been typing emails or listening to audio; my monitor will suddenly go to black... or green.. today it was white.
Everything is still running in the back ground, I just can't see it.

The only way I've been able to restore is by closing down and starting up again. Is my monitor dying?
