Cant play videos

32 bit operating system
vista home premium service pack 1

I have video's done in the flv format which realplayer will play. last week i couple play these videos but today they wont play. both in the flv and real player when i try to play the video i dont get any errors and it shows in both players that the video is playing. the slider at the bottom is showing that it is playing but there is no sound or video. i put the same video on my flash drive and tried playing it on my desktop with the same programs and it plays just fine. i have done my windows update and my realplayer updates. my java update and still the same results. does anyone have any idea what could be going on. i also did a full antivirus scan with kaspersky no infections.
