am having backup issues and am considering an external hard drive. What pros and cons are there to a HDD in a USB 2.0?

Any hard drive can fail whether it is in the case or mounted in an external case. The benefit of a USB enclosure is you can use it on any computer. You can also get a laptop hard drive 2.5" in a external case for backup. Transfer of data can be almost as fast for USB as if it was directly hooked up to computer.
SATA transfer speed is a lot faster then IDE. When a drive is installed in a USB enclosure the data rate depends on the version of USB and of course whether the drive is IDE or SATA. USB 2.0 around 480 Mbit/s USB 3.0 around 5.0Gbit/s |
