Upon opening there are no names or addresses to select. HHow do I select contacts? |

Have you actually checked your Contacts page to make sure your contacts are listed there? (Click the bar labelled Contacts in the bottom left pane of the main Outlook window).

When I click contacts on the lower left the various contact folders appear above it and the e-mail address appear on the right. Then I click new mail message and click on the "To" button. Then another box opens and says select a name. That's where nothing appears.

1. Click CONTACTS
If the My Contacts list does not appear, in the Navigation Pane, click MY CONTACTS Your Contacts lists should appear 2. Select the desired Contacts List If the Current View list does not appear, in the Navigation Pane, click CURRENT VIEW Your Contacts Viewing options should appear 3. From the Current View list select the desired view, the view appears in the reading pane. Outlook 2007 offers eight different ways to view your Contacts, broken down into two sections: Contact Cards and Contact Lists. |

I can see the addresses in the navigation pane. However when I click New Mail message and send to the address ox opens and is empty. I have many folders in the contact list but it appears the contacts are not in the address book. I tried to drag and drop but no effect. I have 8 address folders each with 50 names in them. Any way to export the contract intothe address book in their individual folders?

Are you using OUTLOOK (part of office) or Outlook Express? or is that a typo?
send to the address ox opens and is empty. How did you import you contacts? And from what email program did you import from? |

It is OutLook (part of office). I clicked on contacts then created a folder. Next I imported the contocats fro a file (which was a file I had exported from Out Look 2002).

Ok, so you exported your contacts in Outlook 2002 and tryed to import into Outlook 2007. They each use a different format, thus the problem.

All versions of Outlook store mail settings/contacts in a file known as *.pst, if you still have access to Outlook 2002, you can copy the *.pst file then import it into Outlook 2007.. To do this you need to find the right PST file.
1. Start | Run | type in Control Panel 2. Control Panel Opens Note: If you see the Pick a category screen, click User Accounts 3. Double click the Mail icon 4. Click Show Profiles 5. Click the appropriate profile, and then Properties 6. Click Data Files 7. Under Name click Personal Folders Service that you want to back up.By default the service is called Personal Folders, however may be named something else Note: If you have more than one Personal Folders Service in your profile, you must back up each set of the .pst files separately 8. Click Settings and then note the path and file name that appears 9. Use Windows Explorer or My Computer to copy the file you noted. Remember where you copied it to. Note: After copying the file, find it then right click on it and go to Properties, uncheck Read-Only attribute if checked. Importing into Outlook 2007
Click "Map Custom Fields" to match up the category names in the CSV file with the correct Fields in Outlook's contact list? For example you may have to map "E-Mail address" to "Email". |

Hey Murf, I think the address book is fine - the contacts are showing in Contacts view.
Windrider, see if the following applies: I was able to replicate your issue by removing the address book and fix it by ticking the checkbox. |
