WOW. Been away and see you still have not got it fixed. Not a solution but you could put a shortcut on your desktop to the sound mixer by using a shortcut to mmsys.cpl.

The mixer icon, I assume at one time it was displayed, now it won't. Did this start after installing any new software/hardware?

I still think it may be a registry problem, but lets try this:

Go into Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, check Windows System Components and see if the box for UPNP is checked. If so uncheck and reboot. Now if you use it then it will not let you so then:

Go to My Network Places and in the left pane chose to Hide UPnP devices, to see this choice you will need to have Tools, Folder Options, Show Common Tasks selected.

I don't know when the icon disappear but only installed a few software that i was instructed to do by member of the "Malware Removal Team" and all those software was deleted.
I look in Control Panel but didn't see "windows system components nor Upup ".

A couple of things to try.

1. Start | Run

Type in the following:

regsvr32 stobject.dll

Hit <OK>

Log off-Log back on

NO

Lets check the registry:

Start | Run type in

regedit

Click on the + signs until you find this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify

In the right pane do you see either:

IconStreams
PastIconsSTream

If so highlight and delete them

Now re-start the computer.

May be i am not doing something right but i just can't find "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify"

I click the + by HKEY_CURRENT_USER then click Software then click Classes but jast can't find Local Settings.

Under classes should be a whole bunch of sub menu's generally alphabetically, Local Settings has to be there. You should see something like .3g2, .acp al the way to X say .xpl. Then Alphabetically maybe starting with applications, just keep scrolling down and Local Settings is there.

After you delete IconStreams and PastIcons Streams open up Task Manager (CTRL + Shift+Esc) go to the Processes Tab, select explorer.exe and click End Process.

Now open up Applications tab and click New Task at the bottom right of the window.

In the message box that pops up type in explorer.exe and hit OK.

Explorer.exe will reload, and hopefully the missing icon will be back. If the volume bar isn't there, go to taskbar properties (where the volume was gray) and simply tick the box.

Ok re-read this thread and noticed you have XP Home so lets try this:

In regedit find the key:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App lets\Systray

On the right you should have a DWORD called Services

The Services Value should be 1F, if it is 1B then change it to 1F

Close out regedit.

And if that doesn't work then try this:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Applets\SysTray\Services

0x0000001A = Don't display icon

0x0000001E = Do display icon

"SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio"

Do you have a sound max icon in the systray?
I think I have a PC here somewhere with SoundMax. I will see but I'm pretty sure the driver software over-writes the standard windows volume control.
