Slow internet on one computer but not the others
Hi there
I've recently had a virgin media package installed with fibre optic broadband. The problem is however that I am getting download speeds of around 0.3mbps yet my housemate is hitting 10mbps and I'm hitting similar on my iPad. This indicates to me that something is wrong with my laptop as the internet is working fine on other devices. My laptop is a Sony Vaio FW11E and recently went in for repair as the hard drive cooked itself, meaning a whole new fresh version of windows vista 32 bit was installed on it- and all the drivers downloaded manually. I'm fairly convinced that something isn't right in terms of either a driver or a poor install done by the repair man. I've troubleshooted by doing the following: Tried 3 different browsers Checked for the latest driver for my Wireless card (WiFi Link 5100 AGN) Cleared all cache / internet history Ran a full virus scan Ran Glary Utilities for general computer health Reset the router and my laptops wireless card Turned off AVG antivirus / Windows firewall Could anyone help me here with any suggestions as to why my laptop has such slow download speeds yet the other devices in my house are working perfectly? I could do with a step by step guide when it comes to fiddling with wireless settings, network settings etc as I'm not brilliant with that stuff. Im running Vista 32 bit, all the latest service packs, IE 9 / latest Firefox. Cheers Morby |

If you Have a USB wireless Adapter then might as well try to use it to connect to your wireless router to check id your built-in wireless adapter is the problem.. Sometimes when the laptop is very hot so as the built-in wireless adapter that cause poor service..
