No sound to computer

Hi.

Some time ago my comp ceased to make any sound. No bleeps,no music no nothing.

I checked everything I could think of (which isn't much).I also tried a new sound card, but still no joy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Hecate.

The usual things to check:
1. That the speakers aren't set to "Muted" in the volume control (speaker icon next to the time display)
2. That the volume control slider is not all the way at the bottom (which turns the sound all the way down)
3. If the speakers have their own on/off button or switch, that it's in the "On" position
4. If the speakers have their own volume control that it's is not turned all the way down

If all of that checks out, look to make sure the speakers are physically plugged into the sound card and their plugged into the correct port. Even if you think it's the correct port, if all the other stuff has checked, just put in a music CD and while it's playing, plug the speaker cord into the sound card ports until you find the correct one.
