Laptop usb ports not working after fan was cleaned
Hi guys,
A couple of days ago i disassembled my HP Pavilion dv6244us laptop in order to clean the fan (overheating problem). I also used 90% alcohol to clean the CPU and GPU units and applied the proper paste. After reassembling the laptop none of the 3 usb ports has been working. On the top, the PCI Card (with 4 usb ports) is not functioning. The laptop doesn't recognize any usb gadget i plug in (mouse, stick etc). However, i can charge my GPS through the laptop-usb ports and the pci-usb ports. So it seems that the ports have power but are not working. That said, anyone has an advice for me on this issue? I am basically trying to avoid buying a new laptop. Thanks in advance |

Start | Help and Support | Maintain and on the Actions TAB click Refresh
A list of Recommended actions and learning tips that are available will be displayed. Click All to select all the actions listed and then click Apply . The Health Analysis applies updates and fixes to your computer. Doesn't fix then: Open Device Manager (right click My Computer" | Properties | Hardware | Device Manager TAB) Scroll down to USB toward the bottom: You should have two entries for each USB slot One ROOT One Controller Do You? Are there any yellow/red marks next to any of them? It could be a controller problem, disconnect anything USB then double click on Universal Serial Bus Controller to expand the list Select USB Root hub right click and uninstall, do this for each one. Once all have been removed click the Scan for Hardware changes button in the Device Manager Task Bar, it will scan and replace the drivers. |

Hi Murf,
I couldn't complete the first set of actions since on the Help and Support i couldn't find the refresh tab. Then i did the Device Manager stuff. I had 5 roots and 5 controllers. NO YELLOW OR RED MARKS TO ANY OF THEM. I UNINSTALL AND THEN REPLACE THE DRIVERS. My usb ports still don't work |

I will assume prior to disassembling they worked? You may have disconnect the USB Power connector boards.
