crackling audio

Eversince i've had my computer there's been a problem with the audio of cd's and cd roms. A constant crackling that beats in time with the led light on the cd drive no matter what program i use, real player, windows media and others. But if i play a cd without using a program (just press play on the cd drive) then it's ok. Music I've downloaded from the internet or recorded from the cd drive also plays fine. There's no conflicts.

if by crackling you mean static i'd check the connection to the mobo and speaker connections to the sound card to check they are seated properly

A long shot but worth trying. If, for example, your sound card connects to a bass speaker and a cord then runs to the one of the two speakers, see how much excess cord there is between the bass speaker and speaker. If much, coil it tightly in a figure eight pattern as near to the bass speaker as you can, wrap some foil around it and enclose with a rubber band or something.

You can also go to shop like Radio Shack and buy a metal torus to put around the coiled cable. I do not remember the torus' proper name.
