double click program, nothing happens

Hi -

Kind of an odd problem, not sure if anyone can help. But I dear jeezus hope so.

I want to import my old emails into my Gmail account. Google doesn't have any provision for this, but I found a third-party app for the job called gExodus. Downloaded it, extracted the archive, and double-clicked the program file (no installation required)... it doesn't open. I get an hourglass icon next to the pointer for about half a second... then nothing. It doesn't show up in the Task Manager.

OK, that's annoying. But as it happens, there's a second third-party app for the same purpose, Gmail Loader. I download it, extract the files, and double-click the program file. Again the same thing, brief glimpse of an hourglass icon, then nothing. Also not in the Task Manager.

This hasn't happened for any other programs on my computer. The only other clue I can supply is that I believe both programs are written using "Python," though to me that doesn't mean anything.

Any suggestions? Please?

p.s. Using the "run" dialog box to open program produces the same result.
p.p.s. Both programs run fine on my roommate's computer.

Jonathan

Most likely a problem due to a conflicy with something running in the background. stop some of your background apps from starting (especially AVs), then try it.

No dice. I stopped Norton and all the other system tray apps from starting, restarted, and tried again. Same thing, little hourglass appears, then nothing.

Yes, right up to the one that says

Once you have a good idea where the file is, launch gmlw.exe, or if you're using the source version, type python gmlw.py.
That's when I double click and nothing happens.
