Streamlining win7?

I'm in the market for a faster computer so I was checking out my mothers today which she really likes.

It's an asus with 6gb ram intel core i5-2450m cpu @2.5 ghz
windows 7 64bit

I have no idea about processors but with 6gb I'm not sure why it's not faster...I am thinking it is win7 with all the crap it has enabled by default.

I saw 100+ processes/services going in task manager which seems like it could be the problem...most of them are greek to me and I'm wondering if there is some sort of registry editor or some other way to auto update in one shot some template that will disable all the useless ones and keep the few good ones?

Thanks

Pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about Windows 7 services, including a chart on which to disable (I suggest you use the settings in the "Safe" column) is on Black Viper's Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Service Configurations.
