PC not even starting up

Hi my cpu has just randomly started shutting off. at first it would crash randomly after being on for a few hrs then minutes and now it came to the point where it wont even turn on. I press the power button the lights flash the fans go on but after that nothing it turns off. there are no beeps or sounds that can help me figure out what the problem is. The only thing i can think of is the PSU is broken or too weak even though i thought a 700W would be good for most things. I tried unplugging and plugging all the hardware back then i tried individual pieces trying to see if i can even get a boot screen but so far nothing. So if the cpu powers on but shuts down before i get to the boot screen does this mean my PSU is most likely dead or could it be some other hardware problem?

It would help if you posted your hardware specs (That way we can see the exact hardware and make a better guesstimate of what is the likely cause of the problem).

Going by your description I'd say the cause is due to bad PSU, mainboard is shorting to the case, or a bad power switch.

so heres the specs
video card - ASUS EAH6670/DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5
Hard Drive Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
RAM - Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
MOBO - ASUS M4A88T-V EVO USB3 AMD 880G Socket AM3 MB
Processor - AMD phenom 2 Black edition 3.0Ghz
PSU - Thermaltake purepower 600 AP

So if the mainboard is shorting in the case what could i do to fix that or if there is a bad power switch?

Running windows 7 64 bit home edition

Going by your specs and the psu specs, I vote for the Thermaltake being the culprit. It's an older model, splitrail with 18A on each rail. My guess, it's getting wore out.

Generally if the mainboard is shorting to the case, it's because the board wasn't properly installed on the standoffs or the pc was moved and the motherboard shifted a little bit. Check the mounting screws on the board and make sure they are there and snug. The motherboard should not be touching the case anywhere if properly mounted.

To test the power switch, you can use a multimeter and check continuity, or (and you need to be careful when doing it or you run the chance of bricking the motherboard) you can locate the 2 pins that the switch connects to on the board and momentarily short them (the pc should start up).

I see. i remounted the motherboard just to see if it could help but no luck still. So it must be the PSU right. Do you think you can recommend me some PSU's for a decent price?

For a decent quality PSU rated at 600w, I would expect to pay between 100.00-150.00 (US dollars).

I've used Seasonic, Antec, and Thermaltake.

Thermaltake
Seasonic
Antec

These are all single rail, and a bit bigger than what you have now, but since you have a BE cpu, I figure you may be overclocking in the future. Of the three links, I'd go with the seasonic Based on the output rating on the 12v rail.

Hello,

Well i think in your PSU only specs is one problem and you should correct them. And also you set the correct voltage input selector on the PSU.PSU may not be delivering enough amps on the 12v rail, Can you borrow your brothers GPU and try it in you computer.

Thanks..

Okay so this is what i recently tried. i removed the motherboard from the case put it on top of a carboard box plugged in the video card, RAM and power source. Now i get the fans running on the video card and processor fan but there is no image showing up on the monitor. idk if this means the motherboard was shorting in the case due to not being screwed in properly or something but shouldnt i be able to get something on the monitor when the pcu is running outside the case?

That board has onboard graphics, have you tried the monitor on it? Remove the 6670 and try with the onboard.

Are you sure you need a new case? It could be that the mainboard wasn't screwed down quite right and shifted a bit when you installed the rest of the parts or moved the case after it was put together.
