Cursor jumps backwards!!

I am looking at a friends laptop. An Acer Aspire 5315 with 2gig processor and 1 gig ram running on Vista Home Basic. When the owner types emails in hotmail and on Skype the cursor jumps backwards after a few words and lands somewhere in the middle or at the start of the sentence. Very strange, although it has not happened while typing this message out.

any thoughts guys??

Hi gooner. Maybe your friend is accidentally hitting the touchpad when he types? Some touchpad drivers have a Tap-to-Click feature and this causes similar issues. Have a look in Mouse Properties in Control Panel and see if there is a Touchpad tab. If so, disable it (the Tap-to-Click feature - it might also be found as described here). Failing that, a driver update might help or just disable the touchpad driver altogether and connect a USB mouse.
