Question Slow PC

I have recently reformated my hard drive and all was well but the pc seems to have slowed down quite a bit. I use McAfee and have scanned it but it says all is clear. I am wondering if it could be malware related or could it be a hardware problem. Would someone be kind enough to help. I am running windows 7 Ultimate with a 64bit os.
Thanks
Jonboy123

Hello jonboy123,

How recently did you reformat your drive? McAfee is know to cause system slowness, so could be a factor there.

Hi Jintan.

I re-installed the os about 2 months ago because of a program access problem. I used to hav AVG as my antivirus but my broadband ISP were offering Mcafee free for 12 months so I took that. Maybe not such a good idea then? Do you think it would be a good idea to swop back?

Two months, though plenty of time to do it, might not be enough time for any casual user to become infected. In my opinion, and I make a point that this is just opinion, ISP provider antivirus softwares are almost always the bottom of the barrel. The cheapest thing they could get under the best contract. Why not just uninstall McAfee, reboot, and post back here if it seems that was the issue. Please don't install any other antivirus until you have checked things.

Hi Jintan.

Uninstalled Mcafee and it seems to be running programs and internet a lot more quickly and smoothly.

Sounds like the culprit. May want to consider some free antivirus programs shown at the bottom here then.

Thumbs up

Thanks for that Tom. I went for Avast as it has good reviews and looks a lot lighter on resources.
Regards
Jon
