I'm confused I don't want to shrink the drive I just want to divide it into 4 separate partitions. There is no data on it and I have already formatted it. If I shrink it won't it take part of the drive away?

Thanks

You need to shrink the drive to make space for the additional partitions, after this you then format the new partitions.

The steps laid out in the referred article work, I think you are confused by terminology. If you think of it this way :- First you have a drive, then you place partitions on that drive, then you format those partitions. If you have already formatted the drive you need to go back a step to place the required partitions on the drive, doing this will destroy the formatting, so after you have finished placing the partitions on the drive, you then need to format each of those partitions.
