An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket

Hello,
For some time now i've had internet connection issues, ISP issued a new modem about a week ago and things seem to go ok , for 2 days anyway, then it happened again and again and the only way to get connected again is to restart pc.
When this happens , in the event log i get literally 100's of Dhcp error messages stating that " An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket."
I did some research and downloaded & ran a MS Fix it tool that's suppose to repair Winsock issues, however it happened again today, obviously the problem still exist.
For the record , i don't use torrents or p2p programs , it can happen anytime during normal browsing. I also get a lot of DCOM errors..
I'd really appreciate getting some help with this..

Thanks in advance..

If your not running a Wireless connection try diabling the wireless service.

Start | Control Panel (change the view to "Classic View" if it isn't already.

Double click "Administrative Tools"

Double click on "Services"

Find "Wireless Zero Configuration" within the Services List

Right-click on "Windows Zero Configuration" and select Properties

Select the drop-down menu next to "Startup type". Select Disable

Reboot

NO

Then try this:

Start | Help and Support

  1. Click the link to Use Tools to view your computer information and diagnose problems, and then click Network Diagnostics in the list on the left.
  2. When you click Scan your system, Network Diagnostics gathers configuration information and performs automated troubleshooting of the network connection.
  3. When the process is completed, look for any items that are marked "FAILED" in red, expand those categories, and then view the additional details about what the testing showed
