Power, but it won't turn on.
Strange one.
Running 7 desktop froze solid. Wouldn't turn off using power button so had to power off using switch on back of unit. Turned on with power button and went into Safe Mode. Automatically ran "Start Up Repair" and after about 10 minutes got a "unable to repair so shutting down" message. Shut down but hard drive light still flashing. Wouldn't turn on.......hard drive light stil flashing. Unplugged everything including power lead and left overnight. Power lead back in.........hard drive light stil flashing...wont turn on. Thats about it. I'm sitting still watching the HD light flashing while I type this on my tablet. Any ideas? |

Are you saying that with the computer plugged in but turned off the hard drive light is flashing. So when it isn't suppose to have power, ther is power?
Ok re-read, you unplugged everything left it over night, plugged it back in, won't start up but the hard drive light comes on. Can you hear any fans spinning? Look at the fan within the power supply (back of computer where you switched it off) is it running? |

If the fan within the power supply is not running, then the power supply is bad. If you didn't have the case apart for anything prior to this happening then I would really suspect the power supply. Try this:
Unplug the power cord to the PC. (directly from the PC not from the electrical outlet your getting power from) Hold in the power button on the front of the case for about 1 minute, this will discharge any electrical current within the motherboard. Now plug power cord back in and see if it starts up. |

Look at the voltage switch on the back of the power supply, maybe when you turned off the power supply you accidently switched the voltage.
So no fans turn nothing just the hard drive light. Strange, there must be some current flowing through the power supply to light the hard drive. I would open the case and disconnect the hard drive, then see if the power supply turns on. A hard drive only needs 6-10 watts to power up. |

Disconnected HD and powered up.
Even when HD is disconnected the HD light is still flashing when I "power on" Still wont turn on using front case button. Looks like this is serious? |

Decided to be a bit reckless and took a "leap of faith"
Unplugged 2 connections to the motherboard while power still on. After reconnecting the HD light was off. Turned on using front case button and booted successfully. Looks like I finally drained the power from the MB. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. |

Not sure what the problem was, but glad you got it running. Interesting, the two connectors you took off of the motherboard, were they to the front power switch? Could of been a loose connection....

I know I fixed the problem however I'd be interested as to why it happened in the first place. |
