The usual way of doing this is to reinstall the program and then uninstall it again.
If that doesn't work Look in C:\Windows for a file named UnVet32.exe, if it's still there it means that EZAV didn't uninstall correctly.
If UnVet32.exe is still in C:\Windows you'll need to boot into Safe Mode, and then click:

1. Start->Run->and type in: unvet32.exe
Pay attention to what the uninstaller displays, if it can't remove something you'll have to delete it manually.

2. Depending upon how badly the uninstaller failed after you've ran it you "may" need to manually delete the following:
* C:\Windows\AVShlExt.dll
* C:\Windows\System32\ISafeIf.dll
* C:\Windows\System32\iSafProd.dll
* C:\Windows\System32\VetRedir.dll
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\VetEBoot.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\VetEFile.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\VetFDDNT.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Vet-Filt.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\VetMonNT.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Vet-Rec.sys
* C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust EZ Armor\eTrust EZ Antivirus
* The EZAV start menu program group located in Start->All Programs
* In the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\Ant i-Virus

If EZAV is the only eTrust software you've ever installed it should be safe to remove in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates

If you had to manually remove any files run UnVet32.exe again to see what it displays. If it displays a successful message it will delete itself, thus a complete uninstall.

that worked, thank you very much
I had to manually delete files and go through reg edit, a few files were missing from sys32, so I figured they were deleted during the uninstall, again, thank you

Glad it worked out for you. ETrust EZ antivirus has a bad rep for not wanting to uninstall. Strange a program that suppose to keep malware out of your computer becomes malware when you want to uninstall it.

i know this is an old thread, but i am having the same problems. i followed the directions above. unvet32.exe was there when i looked in C:windows so i did the run, one file failed in the uninstall. looked for all those other files mentioned, none were there including the one mentioned in the fail. did find and delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates but i still get the unvet32.exe when i check to see if it's gone.
help!!!

McAfee Install Successful - Finally

I had this exact same problem with McAfee not installing after uninstalling CA eTrust EZ Armor. After following the above instructions, I went back to the registry and searched for 'armor' which found a few more items related to EZ Armor to delete. After doing that and rebooting, the McAfee install finally worked correctly. Thanks!

While I'm happy to have this fixed, I really wish McAfee provided the option to remove the last items (if it detected the CA product was no longer installed in Add/Remove programs), or at the very least, it would point out the files and/or registry entries it was having a problem with to allow users to uninstall them. I almost deleted McAfee and went with another product for this reason until finding this thread.
