Unable to install Adobe Flash Player/Shockwave Player

Hi!

Had a virus/spyware problem a few weeks ago; a forum member helped me fixed it.

However, after that my computer seems to be not able to install Flash/Shockwave.

Example:

youtube.com, if I click on any video, this message would come up:

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest flash player.

I have been to the Adobe website, and according to 'them' I have successfully installed both Flash Player and Shockwave.

So what am I doing wrong? Why doesn't my computer recognize them?

I use XP Home and internet explorer.

Thaanks!!!

Hi

renegade600,

Hi!

Thanks for the tip.

Just downloaded Firefox and installed it.

No problem at all, flash player installed fine. Very strange.

However I still would like to get the Internet Explorer problem resolved, as I have everything set up at I.E. and I'm used to using I.E.

What do I do?

Many thanks!!!

I had the same problem and message at Youtube and had to uninstall Flash first even tho I had the latest version. Then reinstall it.

Go here for a file to uninstall it first and then do a fresh install.

go to tool, internet options, advanced, scroll down and under multimedia, make sure you have the proper settings selected.

Welcome to CTH

I installed flash 9 manually by putting "flash9.ocx" into my Macromeda folder (Renaming the file to "flash.ocx" and removing the other one as i had flash 7 before)

I keep having issues installing the new one also so i did that

Perhaps you should try that

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, i tried moving to folder but that doesn't work either. I have another issue and I don't know if they are related. I am not very computer savy. I was able to install games from a web site and over night, I can no longer install the games. I can download them but cannot open them to install. I can install from other websites. Thanks for your help.

ok u may try tis..i searched hell of it but none of it help but finally found that an old flash ocx had taken place....well you might have recloned it due tis silly flash player!! so tis guide is FYI...

1. download the uninstaller from adobe -> http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...4157&sliceId=1

2. open command prompt (start>run>type "cmd" in run dialogue box> OK) then use the uninstaller execution file with /clean flag
exp: uninstall_flash.exe /clean

3. go to \windows\system32\macromed

4. lookout for any OCX files (for me the flash8b.ocx is in the directory)

5. go to run again and enter regsvr32 /u C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash8b.ocx then press OK and it should unreg the OCX.

6. Then u can proceed to install newer flash player!!

Hope tis work 4 u as it solved my problem......
