msgsvr32

Compaq deskpro computer c466/128 ram/Onboard Sound & Video, on a 2 user peer to peer network.

Every now and again goes real sloooow.
Installed wintop to see what was stealing all the resources.

Seems that msgsvr32 is being the hog. Extracted a fresh copy from the .cab files and this fixed it for a day.

Have also, reset the swap file, and removed all cards (Modem, NIC), and done a fresh re-install of windoze about 2 weeks ago after the mainboard was replaced under warranty.
Problem still occurs.

Virus defs are up-to date also.

Compaq are saying that all was well after the mainboard was replaced, there-fore it must be the software that is installed. Customer is using M$ Office 2000 pro, a largish access2000 database app, and Internet Exploder 5.5. Nothing else much other than the usual (Winzip/Adobe/etc) is on the system after its rebuild, (that i would consider unusual/weird).

Mainboard was originally replaced cause the LS-120 was causing spontaneous re-boots and USB wouldn't detect any new devices. There is still an "unknown" USB device in devices but the actual USB scanner is also listed and functioning correctly.

Any more ideas i can try before my customer throws it out the window ?

no replies - ok so i've temporarily fixed it by disconnecting all peripherals (USB Scanner included), and forcing doze to use my settings for the swap file rather than letting doze manage itself. (min = half the ram, max = 2x the ram)- could well be that this hardware has issues with usb.
Doesn't seem right but best i can do
