This might be a good start for you.

Quote:
1. On POST (Powerup). enter BIOS by pressing F2
2. Tab along to the second option "Main"
3. Goto last option "SATA mode" & press enter.
4. From the small selection display select "IDE mode"
5. Save & exit the BIOS. This will then set the SATA mode for XP to be recognise.

DONOT set this back to SATA Mode after you install the XP as it will NOT boot. This setting must be kept untill you "Upgrade" (If ever) to Vista.

The XP Drivers are on Acer PanAm website:

If you do a clean XP install from formatted hard drive, a standard XP install disk will not recognize the controller: you also need SATA drivers for F6 install from Intel download site.

What drivers do not work?

The only problem I had was with the webcam drivers: there are several on the Acer PanAm site but I did not use any of them; I ended up using generic Microsoft driver instead.

You can get the chipset drivers and SATA drivers for F6 Windows XP install from the Intel download site.

Although I did not need to on the Aspire 5720, I also use driver detective from http://www.drivershq.com. You can identify what drivers you have and what you need also source any missing ones..

Good Luck...
