Here's an easy one for you Excel pros out there.
Cell A2 reflects a date. I need cell A1 to automatically reflect a date 1 week earlier than cell A1. thanks! ![]() tfuller |

Unless I'm missing something, its fairly simple IF cell A2 is a valid date and not text.
Anyway. Cell A2 is 05/27/03 formatted to May 27, 2003 Cell A1 is "=A2-7" without the quote marks and is formatted will show as May 20, 2003 Of course the date can be formatted to any date format you like. |

It is indeed text. Is there any way to get Excel to return the expected date when the cell being queried is a text format?
Thanks again for your help. If there isn't a solution, then I'll just have to change format of all cells. Don't want to do that if there is another way around this. tfuller |

I got it to work. Not sure why it didn't work the first time, but the =A1-7 worked when cell A1 displayed text. thanks for your help!

Not quite sure I followed that, but the main thing is that IT WORKED. Now, you next assignment is to figure out why and how it worked, then you'll know how to repeat it.
