DVD RW player not reading certian dvd's..?
Okay, I'm trying to watch Star Wars episode I...so I put it in my DVD..drive and it doesnt read it...
I try it in another computer and it reads. I put in Episode II in my DVD drive and it reads it. I put in the bonus disc of Episode I it won't read that. I put in my empire strikes back DVD it does not read it. I put in A new hope it reads it. I put in Return of the jedi it reads it. I put in the bonus disc with the trilogy it reads it.. What is going on? Why is it being bias against my DVD's? Manufacturer: HP Pavilion 061 Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM Hard Drive: 260 GB Video Card: Radeon X1050 Series (Omega 3.8.442) Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor Sound Card: Realtek AC97 Audio Speakers/Headphones: Labtech Keyboard: USB Root Hub Mouse: USB Root Hub Mouse Surface: Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp.080413-2111) Motherboard: ASUS A7V8X-LA DVD RW Drive: Sony DVD RW DRU-150A It used to play them before... I'm thinking it could be service pack 3...could that be the problem? i don't really know how to roll back to service pack 2 or should I just keep 3 and wait for patches? |

I think this is more hardwear related,
how old is the dvd device, it looks like the dvd drive is missing the leading track as it first starts to Read the dvd media, One of the causes of this is wear on the mechanization that tracks the read/write lasers across the dvd media, ie Very common in the home dvd players you use with the tv, They wear out, Or your laser read/write lens are dirty and failing to pick up some of the leading track as it starts to read the dvd media, if you have done a lens clean and you are still getting this prob, You could have a DVD R/W that is near the end of its usefull life, I never found a fix for this, they mould the mounting and the moving parts so they brake if you try to fix them, |

well i got this from another pc which was kinda old..the driver date on the DVD RW drive said 2001...
But I updated it's frimware. It also doesnt make sense why it would only choose to read certian movies. My game DVD's are read just fine. And it worked fine before I Upgraded to service pack 3.. |

QUOTE,
But I updated it's firmware. It also doesnt make sense why it would only choose to read certian movies. My game DVD's are read just fine. And it worked fine before I Upgraded to service pack 3.. I ask you this,? is your system stable and doing all the things its suppose to, Bar this prob, Do you wish to destable it when you remove the sp3 update, You might fine your get back to your old settings and settle down again, Only to find you still have the problem with the dvd device, and a gumpy OS, quote, And it worked fine before I Upgraded to service pack 3.. this might just be coincidental, The dvd device whent wonky as the updates had been loaded, quote, My game DVD's are read just fine. Could be the dvd media, Overtime they just sit right in the device, and the laser scans them all right, Where as the newer dvd media [ie Your movies dvd's do not,] so it may pay you to live with the dvd devices prob, till you can/afford replace it with a newer one, |
