Cannot uninstall TuneUp Utilities 2008.

Hi folks. I have a laptop that I am trying to debug. I keep getting an error box for "OneClick" which I think is TuneUp utilities 2008. So, I tried to uninstall TuneUp utilities 2008. It wont let me and gives me the above error code and states that there is a problem with this windows installer package. I then got a prompt to run chkdsk utility which I have done. This has found some problems but it wont fix them without the correct ?F (fix) promp which I am not sure how to do. Can anyone help please.

Hi jonboy123. Have you tried reinstalling the software, rebooting and then uninstalling it?

Hi AnnMarie.
I have tried to do that but I get the same error code when I try to reinstall or remove it: Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personel or package vendor. I am running XP Home SP3.

Ok. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Install the utility, reboot and use it to remove all TuneUp Utilities 2008 entries (this will remove registry entries but not the files).

Try reinstalling TuneUp Utilities 2008 now (reboot afterwards) and uninstalling it now (reboot again).

I've used the cleanup utility and TuneUp utility doesn't appear any more in programs. I have found it on the C Drive though but I can't see the setup file within it.

Well in that case, I can do no more than to point you back to the Support Team of the software you purchased. See here for more help.

Try a program call "Your Uninstaller 2008", you can use the trial version of it.
It will do the job very well, as the add & remove in windows dont remove all.
This is excellent in removing every last bit of a program you no longer need!
Here is the link to it, try it! http://www.ursoftware.com

Thanks for that. I downloaded it but couldn't find the program. Instead, I found the program on the C drive, drag and dropped it into shared documents and deleted it from there.
TuneUp utilities support site were absolutely useless. I heard from them a couple of times but when thier fix (which was the obvious way that you uninstall an unwanted program) didn't work, they didn't bother to reply to my emails. Anyone following this thread - download tuneUp utilities at your peril!
All fixed now though.

Talking When software is badly written

I don't know how these hack coders end up getting jobs, but I found a nice trick for non-functioning un-installers.

Open Start:
Click Run:
Type: CDM (command prompt or shell)
CD(change directory to the offending software installation folder)
Hint: you can type the first letter of a folder name and press the TAB key and CMD will fill out the rest of words in alphabetical order, thus typing [p] then [tab] while in root directory (ex; c:\) displays the first folder name beginning with p
cd driveLetter:\Program Files\utilities\shoddySoftwareLikeTuneUPUtilities2 009

Once there type:
unwise install.log
This should start Wise uninstaller and remove whatever is in your system according to the install.log

Good day!

Hi Jonboy,
Tried everything on the string, but no joy.Got as far as taking programme from C drive to a spare folder in Documents and re-naming folder.
It will not delete.
It appears at least I do not get the pop-up every 5 minutes.
Still have icon on my start up, and can not remove that.
Any suggestions any one?
