Trouble removing Alot toolbar from Firefox

Hi. My mum installed this thing thinking it was to do with recipes or something. I've got a little search box in the top left of Firefox, it changed my home page and I got a pop up when I started the computer. I want it gone.

I searched for some articles on how to get rid of it, some say to remove it from Add Remove Programs, but it's not listed. They say to search for and delete the alot files like alot.dll, but I've searched and cannot find anything called alot. They also say to stop the alot process from running but I don't see it in my list of process. So what do I do?

Would uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox get rid of it?

Many thanks.

Hello Phil5000,

We can always take a look at things here, so let me know if you want us to approach this same as any other request. If not, I am pretty sure Malwarebytes has included Alot in it's database, so why not run that on the computer.

Question Trouble with Alot toolbar removal from Firefox

Sure tried it as this is browser modifier and not even listed in the Add Remove programs. The Malware removal link you listed was already installed on the computer, and it did not stop it from reinstalling itself even after Firefox was deleted from the program files and the registery.

The full scan did not even show it was there as a malware or any other browser and home page hijacker !..

There must be a better way to get rid of this Alot toolbar don't You think?

Respectfuly

I welcome you to CTH Zeeman2180, but steps posted or suggested for one person's situation may not apply to another's, and too often can make things worse when used on some other computer. If you would like some assistance to need to follow the steps at the bottom here, and start your own request thread. One of us will respond there as time permits. But no more posting in other people's threads please. Thanks.

remove alot

There is a tiny arrow next to "alot" on the search engine box. Click the arrow...scroll down to "manage search engines" and remove alot.

Other than a welcome to CTH missmydaddyas, you do need to review the forum guidelines here. You can post help info in our other forums, but due to too many issues, only approved members are allowed to post advice in other people's threads in the CTH Malware Removal Forum.

Since folks seem determined to keep posting in Phil5000's old thread, I will go ahead and close it.
