Minecraft running slowly

Hello,

Ever since I installed Minecraft on my computer, it has been lagging quite badly. I don't understand why, since my computer is very good. It also freezes about 3 times per day. I have tried using the Task Manager to set javaw.exe's priority higher, but that doesn't seem to help. I look over to see my friend playing it on a Mac, it looks so smooth and enjoyable. Any idea how to make it better?
