Nothing happening + Blue screen

Hi, so, if I am in the wrong section then please feel free to direct me to the right one.

Okay, so for the last few weeks Firefox has been crashing all the time. I thought it was a Firefox issue (still may be) but was in the middle of exams etc and wasn't in a position to start trying to fix it or anything. Then my partner wanted to put some music on from her Mac to put on my iPod (as her iPod broke) and since then the computer is just not working. She said when she tried to do it it just kept freezing and was impossible to use and now it is still. I went away for a few days and now I am back and it is still not working.

I have just opened in safe mode and tried to system restore but apparently it failed. I am now running a scan in safe mode but I am not counting on it fixing anything. After attempting the system restore it opened in normal mode but then I got a blue screen. When it opened again I got the following message regarding it having shutdown unexpectedly:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 2057

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 3b
BCP1: 00000000C0000005
BCP2: FFFFF800034A4AA4
BCP3: FFFFF880077B8600
BCP4: 0000000000000000
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\061312-29624-01.dmp
C:\Windows\Temp\WER-46737-0.sysdata.xml

I have copied this info so I hope it is correct. Using my partner's computer right now but hopefully mine will run enough to let me do any tests you might need me to. Of course the damned thing is like a month out of warranty! I really can't afford a new one and I need to have a computer for uni. Please tell me someone can help!!

Many thanks in advance!

That code usually indicates an issue with the graphics card driver but there are other possibilities too.

Look in Event Viewer to see if there is more detailed information available

To do this, click Start and type eventvwr.msc and hit Enter. Expand the "Windows Logs" category, and select "Application". Find the error which matches the date/time when the crash occurred.

Next rightclick on the entry, click Copy, and click Copy Details as Text. This copies the log to Windows Clipboard. Paste the log (CTRL+V) when you next reply.

Hi, thank you so much for your response!

I spent ages typing a reply to this and then something happened and I lost it! Grrrr!

Okay, so there are many errors, most apparently due to "Bonjour Service", whatever that is. I am not sure when Firefox started playing up, but I think the final crash that stopped it working was on Thursday, and there are many errors of the "Bonjour Service" kind on that day, but there is one that is an "Application Error", would that be it (although it seems to late in the day, later than the problems started I think). Let me know if this is the right one and I will send you the log. (I will be able to copy it on to a memory stick right? Cannot access the internet at all from my machine)

Just as an update, the computer now seems to be working fine I just can't get online on any of my browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome). I am connected, but the pages just don't load.

I have been connecting my laptop to my tv via an HDMI cable so I can watch things on the big screen, could this have damaged my graphics card or something?

Many thanks.

It's hard to know what the issue might be. It might help if I can see some logs of what is running on your computer. Go here and download DDS to your Desktop and doubleclick on DDS.scr to run it. When the scan has finished, two logs will open. Copy and paste both reports in this topic. The logs will be reasonably large so you may have to divide them into sections and make several posts to post them.

Ack, that's a mess. There are remnants of various security software still running on your computer, including firewalls and it's almost certain they are causing the issue.

I can see AVG antivirus, McAfee antivirus and firewall, Ad-Aware Antivirus, a Sunbelt Firewall. A few vendors use the Sunbelt engine so I dont know which firewall it is - it could be Ad-Aware, Vipre, GFI or Kerio.

Please review all of the above and tell me which software is currently installed and what software (and versions) you have uninstalled.

Hello, ahh yes, the on-going conundrum of antivirus software! I have been meaning to sort them out but I don't know anymore which one is up-to-date etc. And actually, I do think the problems possibly coincided with an Ad-Aware d/l or update.

Ok, so I believe my Norton is out of date so I was scanning with McAfee, but that keeps telling me its not working and switching itself off. To be honest, if you think it is the best option I would happily get rid of all of them and start afresh. And in that case do I need both Ad-Aware and an anti-virus?

Anyway, yes, thanks, please let me know how to fix this and hopefully be up and running again!!

Cheers.

Also you are running out of disk space windows need 15% free space to function correctly.

C: is FIXED (NTFS) - 116 GiB total, 12.33 GiB free.

15% of 116 = 17.5

Here is a program that can help you free up some space.

Also my last post you do need to run the removal tools because avg and norton like to stick around after regular uninstall.

I also suggest that you run Ccleaner
http://www.piriform.com/promo/cclean...FQrf4Aodbi1b0w

To Clean your temp files and disable everything from your startup except your AV and wireless device if you connect wirelessly.

Also run the McAfee removal tool.

Will one of these programmes (Avast/Avira) provide all my security needs? Anti-virus, malware, etc? I won't need to install anything else? And they are just as good as Norton/McAfee/AVG?

Thank you very much for your help.

Yes they will provide all the coverage that you need.No need to have anything else on your machine.

I do once a week updated scans with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.
If you install these programs just make sure and disable from start up because the free versions do not provide real time protection.

http://www.superantispyware.com/down...NTISPYWAREFREE

http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756

Along with keeping all startup items to a minimal and free space at 20% on your machine you will always be happy.

Hi. Thanks again for your help, sorry to bother you further.

Computer now seems to be running well, internet up and going again too. The only thing is that I cannot uninstall AVG, it won't let me, gives me an error. Because I haven't managed to uninstall it I haven't installed either of the other anti-viruses you gave me links for. Should I just update my AVG and keep that as my anti-virus? Or is there some other way of uninstalling it that I can try?

Many thanks again, I am so relieved it is working!!
