Question WMS Idle Message

Everytime I try to shut down XP, it gives me a message that says WMS Idle is not responding and I have to end the task to make it shut down. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Do you have Outlook installed? You could try inserting your Office CD and choosing repair from the setup menu.

Yeah, I do have Outlook installed. I tried repairing it, and it didn't work. Windows Messanger isn't closing when I close Outlook, so I don't know if the problem is with Outlook or messanger.

Try disabling your Windows Messaging Service. Here's a good resource

Same WMS Idle problem

I'm having the same issue as well, and I tried the ShootTheMessenger program and it only compounded the problem (when I run it and try to shut down my computer, the WMS idle forced quit screen still pops up, along with another forced quit for a new application with a gibberish character name).

Please let me know if anyone can solve this WMS Idle issue.
Thanks,
-tjfinck

Uncheck enable office plugin and restart your computer and see if this WMS thing goes away.
Just noticed the original post is almost 2 years ago. Should start your own threads on this problem.

Thumbs up Possible solution to WMS idle

There are several different programs that seem to cause this - Outlook seems to be one, Windows Media Player is another. In my case I had to uninstall MS Office, reinstall, and then run Registry Mechanic to get rid of my problem. Just running RM or reinstalling Office did not fix it, I had to do both in that order.

WMS Idle error when restarting

Okay I had this problem as well after i setup my system to interact with my new Treo phone. This problem occurs because of a code defect in the Micosoft Exchange Server. Try to updating your service pack for Microsoft Exchange. I think there are both a SP1 and an SP2 out for Exchange 2003. Here is a link for the SP2 pack http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/do...2/default.mspx

If you are running on Exchange 5.5 then there are three or four packs
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/downloads/55/sp4.asp

Look and see which one you are running and try running a different one.
When i updated to the SP2 pack for 2003 it corrected the code problem in the dll file.

Hope this helps you out.

WMS Idle

As near as I can tell, I didn't start experiencing this problem until I installed the Office update for Office 2003. I applied the fix to MSCONFIG and disabled the the NMBgMonitor in the start up tab.

Go to start menu, open up the "run", then type MSCONFIG in the box. When the MSCONFIG editor opens, go to the last tab to the right and click "Start up" You will find the NMBgMonitor command, uncheck the box, apply then you will need to do a restart.

Thanks navistic,
You were right on about NMBgMonitor.exe. It was installed and called from HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run key after installing the bloated version of Nero Essentials 7. Since I wanted to use Nero, but am not aware of a need for this process I ended up paring down my Nero install as much as possible and then deleting this value out of the registry manually. Thus far everything is working correctly.

Thumbs up

Thanks navistic
I followed your instructions and it worked. Only after I restarted I got a message about the computer utility and normal start up versus specialized. When I chose the normal start up it reapplied the NMBgmonitor. so I unapplied again and now my computer starts up with the DOS bios screen and then goes into the windows screen. Like Bstephenc, I just installed Nero 7.0 with a new DVD drive.

Thank you navistic! Fixed it for me.
I'm not quite sure what software caused this problem for me... but I think it was Nero 7 also???
