.ogm Help
*I ran a search for "ogm" and "ogg" and didn't find anything pertaining to my problem.
Recently, I downloaded a video file that was .ogm (Ogg Vorbis Media file?). The file couldn't play on any of the applications (WMP, Winamp, DivX, RealPlayer) without a codec. I searched what I could online, downloaded virtually every file possible in order to play the .ogm file. However, none of them played. I updated my DivX and Winamp to play .ogg and .ogm files, but they didn't work. In fact, DivX and WMP ended up crashing my computer, sending me to the blue screen. The closest thing I got to playing the file was on Winamp, where the first 10 seconds or so played fine, with both audio and video working fine. However, after those 10 seconds, the video froze but the audio went on normally. Today, I installed the latest DirectX (9.0) and the latest Intel 82845G/GL driver from the Intel site. What I gained from this was that WMP no longer crashed my computer, but still did not play the file. Now, I downloaded this program called GSpot, which can find out which codecs are needed to play a certain file. The only codec I find that I am missing is an audio codec called "ogg_vorbis_1 (0x674f) Ogg Vorbis" but I could find nothing on this codec. The thing I find strange is that the audio works fine, but the video freezes, so I don't know if the audio codec is really the problem. I am running a 2003 (or 2002) HP. 2.00GHz with a Intel graphics chip thing(?; Intel 82845G/GL). I don't know the technical term for it right now, but basically, my video card is built into the motherboard. Please offer your help and thoughts and thanks in advance. |

thanks for your help. i was very tired when i wrote my post and didn't include every detail. i have VLC player and it does play these ogm's fine, but i have external SSA subtitle files which it does not handle properly. VLC doesn't use DirectVobSub for some stupid reason and so, VLC is out of the question for these files. i need to get media player classic to play them.

i wanted to let everyone know that i have gotten the files to play. by uninstalling ffdshow everything is working properly now. gspot still says i have no codec installed for "ogg_vorbis_1 (0x674f) Ogg Vorbis" and not using ffdshow contradicts the ogm guide above. it just goes to show how unstable/unpredictable, not to mention useless, this format is. it offers nothing that can't be accomplished with other, more stable and reliable, codecs like divx and xvid. hopefully this fad will die quickly
