Windows ME, realmode?

I know Realmode DOS has been removed from WinMe, and I know why it was. But...is there any way, ANY WAY to load something that emulates Realmode during Win uptime? I don't have many DOS games...in fact I only have one. The 7th Guest. Great game, and I don't see them offering a windows version anytime soon. I'd like to be able to play it again...

hello EnixLHQ,

Follow this link and read over the article. At the very bottom of the page is where you can download the Real DOS-Mode Patch for Windows ME v1.3

Thanks for the link. I tried this out and it did add a start menu to Windows Me boot. (F8 to access it). But, internal DOS in Win ME still doesn't seem to support what DOS did in Win 98. When I shut down to DOS, I get the same problem.

To clarify what I mean by my previous post: My game seems to require Realmode and Himem capabillities in DOS. While the article allows me to access pure DOS mode, it does not add the functionality of Realmode and Himem. It's frusterating, because I know it's just the memory conflict causing my game to not run. But, I don't see any way of forcing it to run under WinMe, as it still looks for the DOS memory managers that are not present. Is there any way to add these manaders on call, so that I can run them when I want to run the game? Or what about a DOS shell emulator that solves this problem? I would really hate going back to Win98. I don't have Win98SE, so WinMe runs so much faster, stabler, and longer. The only problem I have with the WinMe system is the loss of DOS functionality...which I can appreciate why it's gone, but I really love my game!
