Email help..

I have web hosting through a friend. He rents out gaming servers and web space. My email has been working fine for some time now. I use Outlook Express. All of the sudden I get this error message:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'yuppicide', Server: 'mail.lucabrasi.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

I was doing some research on the net and they were saying maybe his end is blocking port 25. I asked him and he said no and that is should work fine. If I goto my cPanel for the website and goto Horde for mail, I can send mail from the web, but that is annoying as hell.

I telnetted to mail.lucabrasi.net with port 25 and it couldn't connect. He said he did a scan of the system, I don't know what it all means though:

Another note: I turned off SMTP authorization and it sent one email as a test and it worked, but now it's not working again. I turned SMTP off and on and neither are working.

Have you installed and new updates?

If you have a Firewall try temporarily disabling it.

No new updates, because I think the problem happened before I put on SP2. All my other Outlook Express email works except this one.

I have no firewall on. The one built into my router is turned off for my computer, ie: DMZ (demilitarized zone) is on for my IP.

Found the answer to my problem. Optonline now blocks port 25 for any outgoin SMTP mail server except their own.

So, the only way around it is if my web host can forward the port to 26 or 2525 or something, but I don't think they can since they don't have a firewall. If they run Linux with a program like QMAIL then it should come with some sort of software firewall.

Optonline says I can upgrade to BCOOL their business class which doesn't block port 25.
