High gain antenna on 2 antenna router
Sorry if this has done the rounds already, but I could not find an answer in the archives.
I have a D-Link DI-614+ router and just picked up a 12dBi antenna for extending the range outside. The router has 2 antenna jacks, but the antenna only has one connector. There is no option to turn off one radio with the router control panel (that I can see). When I take out 1 little rubber antenna the signal is weaker. I changed from right to left and back again to no avail. At best, I can get the same signal strength as the standard antennae. I called D-Link support and they will have a 'technician' call me tomorrow, so maybe they can help. Thought I would put it to the board anyway, as it seems the majority of members know more than the tech support folks. Thanks in advance |

Is this a directional antenna or omni-directional antenna?

I had the same problem with my wireless network. The 12db gain antenna's are nice, but the problem is they only extend the signal one way. Its kinda like 2 people screaming at each other. Hand man #1 an mega phone and man #2 can hear him fine. But man #2 still cant scream loud enough for man #1 to hear him. So your signal may reach the other pc fine but the pc cant talk back to the router with the same strength.
Hope I didnt confuse you too bad there. I'm not sure if I completely understand what I just wrote. lolBigStu |

When I installed my antenna, I got no boost just like Hal described. I have a single wireless router that I put the antenna on. I boosted the signal out of my router, however it didnt do much good since my laptop could not send the signal back with the same strength. I call the manufacturer of the antenna thinking I had a bad antenna, however they told me that I'm not really doing any good boosting one way.
We are not using bridges in this senario. |
