Will not defrag..

I have had problems with this computer since I bought it. Anyway I have been trying to defrag this thing for the last 2 weeks. It gets to about the 10% point and then it says system files changed or something like that. Then it starts over again and about every minute or so it will start over againg saying something has changed. After 10 tries or so it will quit and tell me to do a more advanced scan disc. I try that and it quits after 10 times attempting to scan saying something is writing to it and now I am back to square one. I have Spy-Bot, Ad-Ware and it never has picked anything up. My Norton AntiVirus has disappeared and I cannot work my desktop all the time. Any ideas at all as where to start looking?

Welcome

It's a common problem because of background processes.

It recommended to boot into Safemode to run the scan.

Try in safe mode:

Restart your computer and press f8 to get to windows startup menu, select safe mode and press enter.

Once in safe mode then try defrag and see if that helps.

LOL, Degsy beat me to it.
