Computer Freeze When Using Dial Up
I'm stumped on this one, there is a couple things I haven't tried, but any suggestions or solutions would be very appreciated.
Ok, well when I first bought my computer it used to be able to connect to the net via dial up. Then I installed a new soundcard and it wouldn't connect anymore. I unistalled the sound card and put the old card back in, it still wouldn't connect to the internet. Then I thought well maybe a virus? Ran an updated virus scan and also ran ad-aware. There was little spyware but nothing else, no virus's etc. So I decided I mise well start with a clean slate... I deleted the partitions and reformatted the hard drive and installed windows XP home edition. It once again was connecting to the net using the same modem "creative modem blaster usb" as before, until I restarted it a day or two later, then it would freeze like before. I hooked up my other modem, a US Robotics USB modem, it wouldn't make the computer freeze but it also could not connect to the internet. It would dial but took a long time and would never finish connecting and have an error like "need more info to connect" or "modem found that host has no dial tone" something along those lines. I really don't know what it could be... maybe winsock? motherboard faulty? Any help would be great, thank you. ... also if you want to know my general system specs they are in my profile.

You probly have a virus.
Reset your winsocks anyway. Start > Run > netsh winsock reset |
