Blocking Limewire ports

I'd like to block the ports Limewire uses to connect to the internet on my network but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Can I use the router to do this? I'm using a NetGear WGR614 v5 router by the way.

I'd really like to prevent limewire from connecting on this network - there's a very inconsiderate individual who gobbles up a ton of bandwidth and makes the internet extremely sluggish who insists on using limewire.

Thanks,

Hrmmm damn inconsiderate people.

Limewire uses port 6346 by default. For me I used a program called "IP-Tools" and used the "connections" tab and it will show you the IP/pc name/Mac, where its conencted to, what port and voila

Thats how I blocked my techs Bearshare. That and I said I would block the MAC from the net.

You can block anything from web pages to services and their ports by using the router. All the info you need can be found HERE Make sure to look at Chapter 5 on content filtering. It would be a good idea to download and keep the manual on hand for any questions you might have down the road.

Limewire also has a PNP option that will dynamically select ports. You may be better off blocking the install.

Or if you have an advanced server/router then block the program instead.

Ahhh so that's why it wasn't working. It does block the port because I tried to access it via browser at www3.limewire.com:6346/ but Limewire is still able to connect (aargh).

The router doesn't have any options for blocking the program. I wonder if I have any other options here.

Thanks again!

Did you block port 6346-6347 both TCP and UDP? You can use the router to block a range of ports so if you know what computer is being used to access limewire you could watch what ports its using and block that range.
