Microsoft broke through the one million units shipped barrier with its Zune digital music player, ahead of its June deadline and beating Apple's iPod record, reports InfoWorld.com.
Where it took Apple 14 months to reach the 600 000 units shipped barrier, Microsoft has already passed a million units shipped mark, the president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division, Robbie Bach, told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Bach told the newspaper that although it's not an overwhelming start, it's still a good start, adding that Zune now has a 10 percent share in the market for hard drive music players. Although Apple only shipped 600 000 iPods in the first 14 months after it was launched, it came at a time when the digital music player market was not nearly as big as it is today.
As of April 2007, Apple has already sold in excess of a 100 million iPods worldwide, 10.55 million of those in just the three months ending on 31 March 2007.
